Man Dying of Thirst Calls Police for Water

A man neglected by nurses and dying of thirst at St. George's Hospital in South London called the police for some water:
A man of 22 died in agony of dehydration after three days in a leading teaching hospital. Kane Gorny was so desperate for a drink that he rang police to beg for their help. They arrived on the ward only to be told by doctors that everything was under control. The next day his mother Rita Cronin found him delirious and he died within hours.

Unemployed Swedes Retire Before Age 40

High union wage requirements and inflexible workplace regulations are pricing many young Swedish adults out of jobs, and many are taking "early retirement" before they reach 40:
Since 2004 close to 70,000 Swedes in the ages 20-39 have been supported by early retirement.... According to Statistics Sweden, unemployment among those between 15-24 years was fully 24 percent in the beginning of 2009.

Competency Tests for Dog Owners

An article in the UK's Daily Mail discusses a new government proposal to require all dog owners to pass competency tests. This would be in addition to new requirements for third-party liability insurance and for micro-chipping pets.

My guess is that the problem dog owners will continue to be problem dog owners, notwithstanding any added bureaucratic inconveniences.
